Father John Misty Tour, New Song Teaser, HOT Press Photos, Legendary Merch Drop
pf hyped on this ngl
Friends,
Glad to be back here in the coziest space online, my very own newsletter. Some fun stuff to report:
First, the upcoming Father John Misty North American tour has been announced and I am thrilled to share that I will be opening for a stretch of dates. I am a huge fan of FJM and I’ll be lucky to get to play to his crowds. I’ll be playing solo and riding on the team bus.* The heads may remember that JT played drums on the first Butch Bastard LP. Vinyl still available here.
*(Sometimes, when I’m at home and unable to sleep I imagine that I’m on a tour bus. I do this mostly because the constant motion and white noise on a bus make for a divine REM cycle, but I think it also has to do with the contentment I might feel to be in a position in life in which a tour bus would be warranted (i.e. a musician who doesn't have to feel anxiety over how to explain to his childhood friend’s mother what he does for a living if, God forbid, he were to run into her at the grocery store when he’s back home for the holidays). However, I imagine that once I am on that bus, I’ll be channeling my warm bed and my chosen woman at home, because the trappings of inflated ego and treacherous ambition make for an inescapable feedback loop of insatiable yearning in my poisoned mind… )
ANYWAY, it will be a family affair; good for the soul. It’s a rare opportunity and I shan’t take a moment for granted. I will be finely tuned and throwing heat.
Secondly, I made a little teaser for the next song I’m putting out from the album. The song, titled “Little Black Shoes” will be released on January 27th. The unbelievably toasty drum and percussion stems you hear are played by the legend Richard Gowen.
For the teaser, I filmed my dancing feet crammed into some little black shoes. I will elaborate on this motif closer to the release date, but let me assure you, it was excruciatingly painful. To get the shoes, I went to the Macy’s in Eagle Rock Plaza; possibly the most depressing department store in operation. The atmosphere of this space oscillates with the flatline of crumbling empire. It reeks of death. It is able to remain alive in its vegetated state due to the giant Target in the other anchor position down the hall and a little bit from the Chuck E. Cheese upstairs, but it is giving major Terry Schiavo (rest her soul). I found a 30% off pair of Sun + Stone black women’s loafers that I was barely able to stuff my feet into like Pooh Bear leaving Rabbit’s howse after gorging himself on hunny. It hurt! I now understand why my grandmother had such pronounced bunions, but I will stop at nothing to explore a salient concept.
I was going to announce a soon to be legendary merch drop but I just found my garage studio flooded in this LA storm and now I’ve got to deal with that bs. Shouldn't have written that song about how I Think It’s Gonna Rain. Live and learn. Anyway, look forward to that merch drop in an upcoming post! All of you newsletter royalty will have early access.

Just discovered you. You sir, are a genius! As a 70 year old boomer, I love "Elegy" and everything else you created. Your vids should have a million views on youtube. I just emailed KCSN to start playing "Little Black Shoes". I am a huge FJM fan and am now a huge "Butch" fan. Thank you for sharing your wonderful talent and insightful songwriting with the world...
Wishing you great success!

No need to explain anything to your mother’s young-adulthood friend’s husband - more power to you! I loved Little Black Shoes, both audio & video! Elegy spoke to me also, probably for obvious reasons…
